Rory Phillips

Rory Phillips is an aspiring young guitarist/singer/songwriter and a music lover to his core. Rory has appeared alongside ARIA winners Fanny Lumsden, Shane Nicholson, William Crighton and Sara Storer, and opened for Grammy Winner, Billy Ocean, in Canberra.  On the folk circuit, Rory has shared the stage with Montgomery Church and supported folk artists John Flanagan, Sal Kimber and We Mavericks, the latter on their NZ tour, as well as appearing at Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival, Cobargo Folk Festival and the Southern Sydney Folk Club. Rory is the youngest member of iconic Australian band, The Bushwackers, joining them on lead guitar and bass, a testament to his ability as an accomplished musician.  In 2022 his single ‘The Truth’ was named a finalist in the inaugural Environmental Music Prize alongside some industry heavyweights such as Paul Kelly, Lime Cordiale, Briggs + Tim Minchin and Holy Holy.  His latest single, ‘Because Boys’, takes an insightful look into the mental health struggles of young men and tries to break down the stigma associated with asking for help.  ‘Because Boys’ was selected by the NSW Department of Education’s The Arts Unit as the repertoire piece for their 2023 Boys’ Vocal Program.

Rory Phillips is FolkFedNSW’s Senior (under 25yrs) 2023 Young Folk Artist Awardee.
