Reedy River 70th Anniversary – Reading + Performance of the Songs

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the hugely successful Australian musical Reedy River written by Dick Diamond.
It premiered at the Melbourne New Theatre on 11 March 1953. The Sydney production featured The Bushwhackers and its popularity led to the formation of the iconic Bush Music Club.
Reedy River played throughout Australia over three years and was seen by over 450,000 people during its first run! And has been revived several times since.
The drama is set about the 1891 shearers’ strike, with songs including Reedy River, Old Black Billy, Eumerella Shore, The Ballad of 1891, and more.
The performance will be a reading of the play with performances of the appropriate songs led by Dave Johnson and the cast with all and sundry invited to join in. A song sheet will be provided.
