Sisters Laura & Susie are Meremba. They are part of the new folk generation of storytellers with their powerful blend of Americana style originals and traditional Celtic tune sets. Laura’s complex and story-tale piano compositions range from the epic to the light-hearted, influenced by artists like Joanna Newsom and Tori Amos, complemented by the spellbinding simplicity of Susie’s gentle folk melodies on guitar, inspired by great songstresses such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Rusby and Kate Bush. Accordion, piano, violin & guitar create a backdrop for music that weaves together flavours of jazz, roots, Appalachian folk and more eclectic styles. Together with Johan Delin on double bass the trio comprises half of ARIA Award nominated Sydney sextet Chaika, and individually they have performed with artists such as the multiple ARIA Award winning Monsieur Camembert, Mara! and the Martenitsa Choir, Miriam Liebermann, Stephen Taberner and Ben Lee.
