Award-winning singer Fiona Ross has secured her reputation as a highly gifted interpreter of Scots song. In 2019 she was shortlisted for Scots Singer of the Year in the prestigious MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards. Here in her adopted home of Australia, she flies the flag for the Scots song tradition. Fiona was mentored by tradition bearer Andrew Hunter, who in turn, learned from the great Traveller singer Jeannie Robertson. Fiona brings knowledge, passion & commitment to her performance. Her grounded, evocative singing style and extensive repertoire showcase the richness, depth and diversity of the Scots song tradition. Fiona performs regularly at major events across Australia, including Woodford Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival and the National Celtic Festival. She is Patron of the Robert Burns Club of Melbourne. Her most recent CD Sunwise Turn (with Shane O’Mara on guitar) won Best Folk Album in the 2020 Music Victoria Awards. Her previous album, Clyde’s Water, is on Scotland’s esteemed Tradition Bearers record label which features the “present day masters of traditional music”.
